A Lamp Unto My Feet

"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path" Psalm 119:105

I had just gone to bed, when I heard a thunderstorm coming in the distance.  About thirty minutes later, all the power in the house went off.  I remembered that my flashlight was in the cabinet close to the bed, so I got up, searched for the drawer handle and pulled it open.  Reaching down inside, I grabbed the flashlight and turned it on.  I was glad the batteries still worked.  Now I could see to find the number to the electric company and call to see when the power should return.   Where were you the last time the lights went out?  Did you spend much time groping in the dark?

God, in the longest chapter in the Bible, gives us instruction to help us out of spiritual darkness.  Every day we run across times when we need a word from God.  Here, the psalmist tells us God's word is "a light unto my path".  Because sin separates us from God, the Holy Spirit has given us His written Word - the Bible.  In its pages we find the answers to our questions; direction in times of uncertainty.  We need to read it, be familiar with it and memorize what we can of it, so when the daily storms of life come and the spiritual darkness arrives, we have a "lamp unto my feet".

Bibles for All is working to get God's Word (the Holy Bible, evangelists, pastors and teachers) into the hands of many who live in spiritual darkness and want to hear from God.  Your prayers and donations can help us do this.
